Almost everyone is aware of the immense popularity of online dating. Millions of men and women around the world have taken to this new way of dating.

In fact, figures reveal that around a million or so men and women sign up for online dating sites each and every day. Such figures are made up of around 300,000 women of various age brackets from different countries around the world. The remaining 700,000 are presumably men.

Despite this immense figure, there are still a lot of people who are clueless about online dating. It is either they are simply not aware of this way of dating, or are simply not attuned to the times due to circumstances in their lives. Being clueless about online dating however is not confined to those disconnected individuals–people who do not have Internet access or are disinterested, for instance. Believe it or not, many people who go online dating more often than not fail miserably in finding a date. Yes, they find a potential date. They even make contact. Sometimes though, it just does not work out. Why?

One possible reason could be their being a tad bit too straightforward. It is okay to be upfront and honest when online dating. In fact, you should be clear about your intentions. Such intentions can be made known through certain means such as your profile. You are normally given the option to state what sort of relationship and date you are looking for. There are some people though who tend to be too straightforward. You know, implying that they want to have sex for instance. You should not talk about sex on that initial or contact email. This is especially true if you are getting to know a decent lady. If you really want this sort of thing, there are adult sites that will gladly accommodate you.

Then there are singletons who are simply too shy. They do not say anything at all. They send out one-liner emails. A simple “hi” does not say much about you and your intentions. Tell them a bit more about yourself. Ask about them as well. In fact, asking about them shows that you are interested in getting to know them better.

These two are among the many reasons why online dating has not worked for many who already engage in it. Hopefully, you will not commit these same mistakes. By avoiding the pitfalls I mentioned, you shall be on the right track to finding that perfect mate.
