Why Do You Date?

People have different reasons for dating. Some people are simply in it to have fun. Some are out to find their lifetime partner. While others are simply dating so they won’t be alone.

These are all fine and dandy. Different strokes for different folks, as the saying goes. Have you wondered however, what your reason is for dating? Think about it. Are you dating to find that lifetime partner? Or are you simply too lonely and want to get out on a Saturday night?

Here are some things you may want ask yourself while thinking about you answer:

• What kind of relationship are you most comfortable with? Relationships that are purely physical, intellectual, or emotional? Or are you looking for a commitment?

• Are you “emotionally mature”? A lot of people tend to get carried away when things start to get physical. The problem with this is there are those who mistake physical relations as love itself. But all the time it was purely lust. So the emotional attachment ensues. But then again, there wasn’t anything there in the first place.

• By the same token, are you comfortable with being “physical”? Even though it may seem like the norm, a lot of people still aren’t comfortable with it. There are still quite a number of people who aren’t that open to a physical relationship. Are you one of them?

• Is marriage your goal? Or at least, do children and the whole commitment idea appeal to you? This may not necessarily mean that you’ll be getting married in the near future. It simply means whether or not you see yourself tying the knot somewhere down the road.

• Getting back to physical relationships, are you simply pressured into “doing it”? It is okay to say no especially if you’re not comfortable with the whole idea. Just be true to yourself.

• By the same token, is your partner pressuring you? Again, just say no if it doesn’t seem to be your cup of tea. If this comes at the cost of losing him, so be it. The real love is waiting there for you – the one who truly understands and respects what you want.

So why not give it some thought. Why exactly are you dating? There are no right or wrong answers here. The answer must come from you – in all honesty.
