The Two Steps Of Online Dating
March 4th, 2010, Posted by Eddy AnkrettA lot of people think that online dating simply involves meeting someone via the Internet and voila! They’re set for life (or the next six months).
These people believe that online dating is that simple. Meeting a bloke via online dating website, chatting a few times and romance comes in. Oh dear, they have it all wrong. Sure, it involves meeting someone via a dating website. And chatting can be part of the mix. It does however, involve more than that. There is so much more to online dating than “meets the eye”.
Online dating can actually be a step-by-step process of making yourself available, initiating contact/being contacted, getting to know them, and so on. Moreover, it likewise involves some “offline” activity as well.
To simplify matters, we can divide online dating into two steps: Online and Offline.
1. The Online Step: This is the essence of online dating. It is actually what makes it so. What many people fail to realise is that this is the more crucial of the two steps. This is because failure in this part means that there will be no offline to speak of. First of all, you need to chose a reputable dating website. This means one that “cares” for you as you go about finding a date. But it doesn’t stop there. You likewise need to do your part in ensuring online dating success. You need to create an attractive and honest profile. One that won’t get lost in a sea of countless others. Things such as being descriptive, witty, posting a recent and decent photo and so on shouldn’t to be taken lightly. Should you find someone interesting, write an “intelligent” email that focuses on getting to know the person. If on the other hand, you are the one contacted, it is your turn to respond by letting them know the real you. And so on.
2. The Offline Step: A lot of people don’t normally reach this step: This is particularly true for those that date someone halfway across the world. But many fail to realise that it is likewise an integral part of the whole online dating experience. Going on to offline dating simply means that you’ve somehow succeeded with the online part and are moving forward. This can be mistaken for “being set for life”. You see, offline dating has it’s own “tests” to pass. The telephone conversation and first dates are crucial in themselves. How the two of you get along during the telephone chat and first date, respectively, makes a big difference.
For those thinking about online dating, keep in mind that it isn’t simply dating from your computer. While this plays a large part, it doesn’t stop there. Your “real world” dating skills are likewise put to the test here. So be a smart dater both online and offline.
