The First Online Impressions Can Go A Long Way
February 26th, 2010, Posted by Eddy AnkrettFirst impressions count even when online dating. Although the two of you may not come face-to-face, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be at your best.
You may have been told that online dating allows you to meet people from the comfort of your own home. This means you can practically type in the buff and your online date won’t even know it. This doesn’t mean however that your online dating profile should likewise come undone.
On the contrary, you should put your best into that profile of yours. This will help leave a good, lasting first impression. How to do this? Here’s how:
1.The Look: This is the first thing people see – literally. A lot of online dating websites now offer users the chance to customise their profile page. They can chose from various templates, colours, fonts, and so on. All in the name of personalisation. Whether we admit it or not, how a website or webpage is presented affects or surfing habits. Think about it. Would you really pay any attention to a website that looks plain? Or one that has too many “trinkets” on it? We thought so too. You may choose to hire a graphic artist. Or a least seek their advice. If you think this is a bit too much overkill, you can always look at other users pages to get an idea. Just don’t copy. This not only makes you look lazy. It increases the chances of that profile getting lost in the sea of other profiles. Take the time to design your profile in a way that represents you as a person. If you are a simple person who loves simple pleasures, choose a no-nonsense design. Just choose colours that would compliment the design. And make sure that these will entice your readers to stay on and view you entire profile. As mentioned above, too many “knick-knacks” may cause them to move on.
2.The Content: This is another area that is equally important in making a good first impression. Don’t simply write short sentences that lack substance. Be as descriptive as possible when telling people about yourself. Fill them in on how you engage in your favourite hobby, for instance. This will give the impression that you mean business when it comes to meeting new people. It shows that you took pains to give them as much useful information as possible. To get as “personal” as possible.
These are just of the basic things to keep in mind when trying to make a good first impression while online dating. Learn how to do them and you will be getting a lot of contact messages in no time. Good luck.
