The 5 Essential Rules of Dating
July 21st, 2009, Posted by Eddy AnkrettLet’s be honest here, there’s no perfect step-by-step rules for dating. It’s an interchange of personalities with many other dynamics constantly moving in and out of the equation. However, there are certain things that will help to make your date more perfect.
Don’t treat these rules as a check list. Life isn’t like that. Keep them in mind as an important rule of thumb and let the actual situation drive what happens. Dating is all about having fun and getting it right will always help to ensure that. Here are 5 essential rules for dating.
1. Turn up for the date on time. There really is no excuse for being late for a date. Sure, things happen sometimes, but really make every effort to be on time for that first date. It simply sets the scene and says to the other person that at least you know how to be punctual, which in turn shows that you have a measure of respect for your date.
2. Keep to the truth. Honesty really is the best policy. If you really are a rocket scientist, then by all means say so, but if like most of us you are not, don’t try to boost your standing by making a claim that simply is not true. The problem with dishonesty is that you have to keep it up. Start off every relationship with honesty. It is always the best policy.
3. Be polite to the people who serve you. If you go to a restaurant or bar on a date, always be polite to those who serve you meals and drinks. They are not your servants. They are people, just like you, who are trying to make ends meet. Their job is not always an easy one, dealing with the public, so make it easier for them by smiling, being courteous and even leaving a tip where appropriate. Your date will notice this and know that you have respect for others. You will gain by getting respect back.
4. Prepare for the date properly. Don’t put on your cleanest dirty shirt or top. Don’t think that a little stubble will not be noticed, and don’t think that an overload of perfume or aftershave will cover up body odour. The answer here is to shower or bath properly first and wash your hair too. Then change into clean clothes – yes everything. After that you can add perfume or aftershave if you like.
5. Go easy on the booze. A drink or two on a date is perfectly acceptable and even expected. But don’t overdo it. Shy people can often try to cover up their lack of confidence by drowning themselves in too much alcohol. It isn’t a cool thing to do. You will lose all respect as well as the date. Keep your drinking down to moderate levels on every date.
Getting dating right is largely commonsense, but it can help occasionally to have the do’s and don’t's spelt out for you. These 5 essential rules of dating are not necessarily the definitive ones, but they will hold you in very good stead. Now all you have to do is go out and have fun!
