LOGGING ON TO FIND LOVE? WHAT EVERY ONLINE DATER NEEDS TO KNOW

Millions of individuals in the UK will try online dating this year, spending an average of hundreds of pounds on their search for love.  20% will go on to meet a new partner, but 80%will fail to start a relationship.  Online is one of the most popular ways to date, but why does it fail to work for so many people?

Eddy Ankrett, chairman of Dateline, one of the UK’s most established dating services, talks frankly and impartially about the changes that the dating industry and daters need to make in order to increase successful matches.

Eddy commented:  “All industries, including online dating services, must be held accountable for their rate of success.  Helping people to find a new partner is far from an exact science – there are many factors that determine this, not all of which can be controlled by dating service experts.  However, far too many on- and offline agencies simply do not do enough to help their members identify the important changes that they need to make to themselves in order to meet and successfully date a new partner.

“We ask all our new members whether they think they need to make changes to their outlook, approach and behaviour to meet a new partner.  80% tell us they do, but over 90% of these individuals say that they don’t know how to go about doing this.  In life, it is so easy to expect the ‘other person’ to make the effort to change, and it is so hard to think about ourselves and what we can do to improve.  I would urge anyone considering online dating to ask themselves some simple but telling questions before going ahead – or they are unlikely to find the relationship they are looking for.”
