Know Thy Mistakes
October 16th, 2009, Posted by Eddy AnkrettA lot of people in the dating scene commit a lot of mistakes without even knowing it.
Mistakes have may seem harmless at the time. These however, may be committed over and over again until one day, their partner leaves for no apparent reason.
So how does one know if one is already committing a dating mistake? Here are some things to watch out for.
1. Don’t neglect your partner’s feelings. This is one of the most overlooked mistakes one can ever commit. When two people have been together for quite some time, they tend to take each other for granted. This can extend all the way to deciding for the other person on certain issues. They think that they know the other person so well that they tend too assume this is how he or she will take things. Keep in mind though that people have feelings and know matter how well you know someone, you should always consider how he or she would feel about certain things. You make your partner feel important if you at least take the time to ask before deciding for the both of you. And no matter what the situation is, even a simple “I love you” can make someone’s day. So put your partner’s feelings ahead of your own.
2. Don’t ever neglect the trust factor. Trust is the key to any successful relationship. A relationship built on trust can go a long way. Just as you respect your date’s feelings, learn to trust them as well. This means not being suspicious or jealous every time he or she talks to another man or woman. Or simply having faith that he or she will always be there for you, no matter what the situation is.
3. Give them a reason to trust you. This means not having to lie, no matter what the situation. Even simple “white lies” to “spare their feelings” can become habitual lies. This is the worst pitfall you can get into. Honesty is always the best policy.
4. Don’t expect too much of your date. Your partner is a human being with his or her own strengths and weaknesses. Learn to accept them for who they are. By the same token, don’t judge them for who they are not.
5. Open and honest communication holds the key. How else can you know you’ve committed a mistake without talking about it with your date. Learn to be open, speak your mind and listen to your partner. This is the only way you will resolve any differences.
So while you may commit some of these mistakes, remember that you may not be the only one doing so. Your date may be guilty as well. The important thing is to learn to forgive each other. With forgiveness and understanding, you can turn your whole dating experience into something beautiful and long lasting.
