Don’t Shy Away From Dating

Your friends have been trying to get you into the dating scene for quite some time now. They even tried to set you up with some really interesting blokes.  All this is actually okay with you. You’re not a man hater or anything like that. In fact, you’ve always wanted to try dating someone other than the nerd you “hung out with” in school. The problem is that you’re utterly shy.

No, you aren’t exactly the type who hides in her room all day. You know how to laugh and have fun when you’re with friends. But when some bloke starts talking to you, things start to get all fuzzy. Your brain freezes and your palms get all sweaty. And this man is simply trying to ask if that brand of cereal you’re buying is any good.

Oh dear, you may have a problem. Not to worry. You can still go and have the time of your life while dating. Here are some things you might want to try:

•   Relax. This is the most important thing you need to do. If they ask you questions (which they most certainly will), simply answer them. No need to tell your life story when asked what you do for a living, for instance. Just tell him what you do for a living and that’s it. Simple, isn’t it?

•   Here ‘s more. You might want to ask questions yourself. Simple things such as asking him what he does for a living as well. This not only gives them a chance to talk about themselves (which most people like). You likewise needn’t talk as much (which you seem to like too).

•   By the same token, listen to what your date is saying. You could actually be “killing two birds with one stone” in a manner of speaking. First, you not only eliminate the jitters while fumbling on what to say next. And of course, you give your date the respect and attention they deserve.

•   Fumbling isn’t an excuse to crawl back into your shell. You can simply make light of the whole situation. Remember that everyone makes mistakes. So you can put a little humour into the date by saying something like: “Can you top that?”

•   Smile. This brightens up any room you walk into. Moreover, you actually become more attractive when flashing that winning smile.

Again, just relax and be yourself. Most likely, that date of yours doesn’t expect you to do cartwheels or be someone you’re not. Don’t worry. Dating is really about getting to know the person. The real person. So just follow these simple steps and you’ll be fine. Good luck.
