Younger people often seem to think that dating is for their own age group alone. Dating for over 50s can be an abhorrent thought for them. Older people are often deemed in their eyes to be past all that. Somehow it doesn’t seem right, or even acceptable, for older people to get all lovey-dovey and romantic. Every young person will one day come to understand a remarkable thing: it doesn’t matter how old you get physically, your mind seems to be always stuck at around 15. Yes, some people do seem to age mentally too, but the majority of us stay young inside while being alarmed at the changes taking place in our bodies. It is usually best to stick to your own age group, or at least not stray too far from it. Old men of 70 plus who have teenage girls hanging on their arms are not really thought of as lucky; it usually just looks weird to others. And women in their 70s with youthful toy-boys look no better either. But of course, it’s all a matter of choice, so do what works best for you.

You have to be ready to indulge in dating for over 50s. Often those who consider doing it are those who have lost a partner to divorce or death. Both situations are stressful in their own ways, so it is imperative that you are ready when you start dating again. Having said that, once you are ready the opportunities are endless.

We are generally a healthier nation now than our grandfathers and grandmothers were. This means that more and more over 50s are more mobile than those who came before them. This offers a lot more dating chances and puts the over 50s closer in line with the opportunities of those people who are much younger. This is a very good thing, for it starts to blur the differences between dating for the young person and dating for the older person. It starts to make dating for older people much more acceptable too, and not that more traditional view of it being a weird habit that some old people persist in doing.
