Beauty Really is Only Skin Deep
September 28th, 2009, Posted by Eddy AnkrettIt’s hard to turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper at the moment without being launched headlong into the age-old debate of just how important physical beauty is to our overall attractiveness. Bombarded with images of celebrities from Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss to Jack Nicholson, we are constantly asked to assess the worth of individuals based not on their talent, personality or success, but on their weight, style and ability to defy age by maintaining an unobtainable level of physical perfection.
Whilst the majority of us go about our day to day lives without the glare of media attention, it is only human to compare ourselves to others around us – whether celebrities or friends – and to wonder if we too are equally scrutinized by potential partners. For many of us, this creates a real sense of pressure. Looking your best when looking for love is certainly a good idea, but it is also essential to remember that this is only a small part of who we are. Much more importantly, remember that almost everyone is more interested in meeting someone who shares their priorities, loves and supports them. Even celebrities who are famous for their looks or physique frequently confess to the same insecurities we all share – beauty really is only skin deep!
