Am I Too Seductive While Online Dating?

March 11th, 2010, Posted by Eddy Ankrett

Online dating is supposed to be a fantastic and clean way to meet new and potential dates. There are times, however, when things don’t go exactly as planned.

Not that obscenities are largely to be blamed. There a lot of single guys and ladies out there who have found some of the most decent and caring dates they could ever want. The problem for some other singletons is that they don’t seem to be getting any decent dates – at all. How can you not be with such well-mannered individuals, you ask. So you look back and see what possibly went wrong. You signed up for an online dating website hoping to find a mate, created a profile, and posted a photo for others to evaluate.

After a few days, your inbox is still aching for some sign of life. So you patiently wait for that much-awaited hit on that online dating site. Finally, messages start pouring in. You’re ecstatic until you find out who sent them to you – people who scribbled obscene notes, blokes who just passed by to say hi. How disappointing.

But before you point an accusing finger toward yourself, why don’t you give your profile a thorough run-through. Zero in on your headline first. How did you introduce yourself? As the name suggests, the headline imparts your personality, summing up in so many words what people can expect to find in your profile. Skim through it: Are there hints of sexual overtones buried between the lines?

Focus on your photo next. People look at it while giving your thumbnails page a look-see. For the uninitiated, the thumbnails page is that part of the online dating website where a group of profiles is placed in thumbnail format. Users click on your corresponding thumbnail to access your profile. Check out what you’re wearing. Were you posing too seductively? See if there’s something more there that suggests you’re an easy catch.

Now on to your profile. Verify if you’ve written something juicy to merit the attention of your tongue-wagging “fans”. You don’t want to sound like you want “it,” now do you? Clean up everything that seems problematic. Then, start afresh.
You’ll meet the right date for you soon. And brushing up your profile is a step toward that directon. It’s what online dating is designed for in the first place.
